Dan, I just think there has been some confusion on this topic and not all the judges follow the TDB posts, so if there is or is not suppose to be a star washer, following the JM is the way to go. Right or wrong its still worth a point on the deduction side according to the judge. I am glad to see that Joe S. and others follows the TDB and gets some opinions on the details.

Ed, the strange thing is that I, among others, submitted the washer error on the last two 63/64 JG revisions, but it never gets implemented. Bottom line is we need a broad spectrum of people reveiwing the JG before it gets printed and used 'as the law' and has unsuspecting owners changing items to match it. I have asked and volunteered to help out but was told it was being taken care of by 'the team'. My current copy is full of 'red ink' corrections on many of the pages, but I guess only I am aware of them. With a tool like this DB there's no reason to not have this stuff well sorted out and ask questions like Joe has.

        Dan,
many 63-64 guys are aware of the continuing errors in the 63-64 JG.
This has gone on and on for at least a dozen years.
Michael Hanson and myself also offered input but it was ignored also.
Michael Hanson finally decided enough and didn't renew his membership.
Many cars get changed to keep from losing points and that is really sad.

Myself and others have had the same experience regarding the errors in the 65 JG. I could never understand those that change an original car to comply with an erroneous JG.

It just blows me away that one star washer could warrant 19 posts on the topic.

              Gene,

You, better than most, should realize if a member asks a question here on the forum there will be a deluge of answers and opinions. Just part of what makes reading this forum so enjoyable and educational. But, I concur, we can get a bit anal from time to time.

                Leif,
Ok, realized, just such a miniscule thing in the whole realm of the car. I could never in my wildest dream think so many words could be put to print on such a little thing (star washer). I just didn't want to put to print your last sentence. As not to offend anybody.

Gene, the sad thing is we shouldn't be having this conversation about many little things that have gone on and on and should've been corrected years ago to provide information for owners and Judges alike. With the knowledge on this site, this stuff should be taken care of.

Re: 1965 Accelerator lever ground strap??

Guys, Thanks to all of you who have contributed to this discussion. I think the big deal here is that we have a bunch of judges, experienced and inexperienced who overlook the reason we come out to judge. We are supposed to be trying to stay subjective and help the owners get their car to whatever level they are trying to achieve. That star washer means absolutely nothing in the total of what we are looking at while judging someone's car. A note to the owner is all that should be done. A point deduction is not proper judging in my opinion.

I see many judging sheets and errors like this happen over and over. To the extent where an owner has lost over 20 judging points due to straight judging errors to judges taking 50% or 60% of the allotted points when the proper total should have been 20%.

I can see Gene's frustration in the fact that we can say so much about a single star washer. I think this star washer is a symbol for how we can get so anal about a miniscule item and lose focus on the big picture. Whether the judge is sure that the washer should be there or he is mistaken. That star washer has no value for a deduction in my opinion.

I am not saying that I am perfect by any means. One thing I always tell an owner when I review the sheets with them is this. "Before changing anything on your car due to one of my deductions, please be sure I am correct with my comments!" However, I know I am always fair in calculating what a deduction should be. And in numerous occasions I make a comment and take no deductions.

                    Joe
