My 1959 built Nov.58 has E158 on the block.Could this be the original engine?Thanks. Steve.

I think you're reading the block casting date incorrectly. I believe the last number is a "9", not an "8". In any event, the assembly date stamped on the block looks like it's a May, 1959 date (although the day doesn't make sense with 3 digits). Also, the "CT" suffix code is a code for a 1959 Corvette 245 HP engine. So, everything seems to "line up" and this is likely the original engine.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The block casting date of E158 works out to be E = May, 15, 1958.
If this is really the case, the engine build date would align with a Nov 58 build date, but the casting date is off.
Double check these and post a picture or two if you can.
