    Re: 1996 Corvette

Pat read your post yesterday. It did not sink in yesterday but it did this morning with a re-read that you years 12 and 14 are 28 and yours and mine LT4's are only 18.

      Gentlemen,

Tire life is about 5 years with good or bad tread! At least that is what manufacturers recommend along with retailers who want your business.
Just remember this!!!!! When a radial comes apart at 70 miles per hour the damage to the fenders will exceed the cost of tires by 10X!!!!!
      And I just can't see a 95 or 96 being a trailer queen!!!

        Joe,
You should have seen the 1995 ZR1 at Marlborough Regional. IIRC 2300 miles. The whole car, including the chassis - but less windshield was like brand new. It was a great learning tool for my C4 students in the Advanced Judging Seminar.

Most C4 are not trailer queens, but who's going to drive in a C4 2000 miles or so to a meet? These cars are too much fun not to drive.

            Ed,

I have over 300,000 miles on my 96 and it's still going strong. Why not drive them 2000 to a meet. They get great gas mileage 27-30mpg (with a little tinkering with the computer), AC, PS, PB and 100 Watts of CD!!!!

Sorry Joe, I much rather ride in this...and give the C4 a ride in the back.

                  Re: 1996 Corvette

Wow! I have a lot of catching up to do....my 95 Coupe only has about 6,750 miles on it. I did trailer it to each event I had it judged at, but was fortunate to have access to an enclosed trailer and had my own tow vehicle. Trailering it kept it in top shape for judging without the worry of something happening on the road, not to mention the "concern" of driving it all those miles on 15+ year old original tires. Speaking of tires, I have both a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW's and a set of Nitto NT555s that I use on my "driver" 95 Convertible. The Continentals are very quiet and handle very well, but "feel" less sharp (a little softer) in handling than the original Goodyear GSCs. The Nittos "feel" firmer and more connected than the Continentals and more closely approximate the "feel" of the GSCs. The Nittos are quiet at speed but are a bit noisier than the Continentals overall. I have driven on both the runflat and regular versions of the GSCs - the runflat versions were louder in my opinion. Finding Goodyear tires in the correct sizes for a base suspension 95 was next to impossible, which is how I ended up with these other brands. Hope this help!
Also, my 95 Convertible "driver" has just 49,000 miles on it but is my choice for long rides and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it 2,000 miles or more in one trip. Come to think of it, I have! When do we leave for the next trip? I am ready!

                    Ed,

My 1998 Dodge 3500 24 valve Diesel has over 300,000 miles on it also! Come by my tent at the NCRS Florida Regional and I'll give you a lift!!!

Thanks for posting the comments about the Continental tires, I am considering them as a replacement tires for my 1996's Goodyear GSCs.
