Reason for this post is to complain about the Goodyear tires on my 1996 Corvette. The tires make noise which is very distracting on the highway. These tires are old although they have good tread on them. I am considering using a different tire brand when they are replaced. Anyone experience this type if noise on their C4 with Goodyear tires. I replaced the rear tires years ago that had lots of tread left because because of the noise the rear tires made driving on highways.

Re: 1996 Corvette
Never owned a C4 but I've owned three C5 and they all came from the factory with Goodyear run flats and were noisy as heck. Replaced with Michelins and it was like driving a different car. Quieter, better handling and all around better ride and drive quality. Also, lasted longer...IMHO.Leif

Re: 1996 Corvette
My son is pleased with the Continental (non run-flat) tires on his 1996. Seems like you have several good options for non run-flat tires. I replaced the run-flat tires on my 2001&2003 with Michelin non run-flat tires and they were much quieter.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top

Run flat tires are HIGHLY undesirable for many reasons. I rue the day I ever have to use them. However, as you know, C5 and later Corvettes have no provisions for a spare tire, space-saver or otherwise. So, that means that in most cases, a flat tire is going to mean a tow. When one is 100 miles from nowhere, that's a real problem. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1996 Corvette
Just a personal opinion but I would not run a set of Goodyear tires on my 96 if they were given to me and I was paid to ride in the 96!!!!
They are noisy, hard, flat spotting miserable tires!!!!
As long as Michelin makes tires they will be on my transportation!

You're right, can be a big problem. I carry a tire plug kit and a small air compressor. I've used it several times on the road, fortunately I did not have to use it on MY vehicles. You have the same flat tire concerns when riding motorcycles - that is when I began carrying air compressor/tire plug kits. The gooey string kits are a pita, I carry a kit that compresses a rubber plug and inserts it into the tire - works very well.Judging Chairman Mid-Way USA (Kansas) Chapter- Top

Re: 1996 Corvette
Pat how many years were your original Goodyears used before you replaced them? What is the age and mileage of the replacement Goodyears? From your previous posts I remember your LT4 has low mileage compared to my LT4. When bought new my LT4 did not have tire noise but it did develop, that is why I replaced the Goodyears on the rear even though there was a good amount of tread left, I don't do burn outs with my LT4, almost all mileage is interstate miles.- Top

Re: 1996 Corvette
For whatever it's worth, I have original Goodyear GSC tires on my 95 when I show the car and yes they are noisy when I drive on them, and hard. I guess as they age they get hard and subsequently make more noise. I have Goodyear Eagle F1s on my "go" wheels and they are quiet. My 95 has 15,200 miles on it.

Re: 1996 Corvette
Jim it's hard to recall but I think I replaced my originals after about 12 years. Current tires are about 14 years old with probably 2k miles on them.- Top
