    58 Heads

Hi. My Head's read 3748770 x58 on side with the triangle on each end, (230 horse) the Nolan Adam's book show's several instance's with this but the judging book show's a different end marking. I had a 30 point deduct at a recent Regional. Were they wrong? Thank you.

Do the heads have accessory bolt holes on the end? Are the heads Tonawanda-cast or Saginaw-cast?

Hi Joe. Head's also have the staggered hole's for valve cover's, no end hole's for access. What determines the cast town? Again mine have the triangle cast on the end's. Thank you.

The correct heads will have a smooth or machined surface on the end markings. A shot of my 58 heads

Hi Tom... My head's look the same as your's with the triangle sitting on rectangle very smooth and 770 #. Does that mean their correct? Thank you.

Under the valve cover (where the casting number and dates are found) is there anywhere to be seen a large "T"?

                "Correct"......??

I can't say for sure as I am not a judge nor have I had my heads judged, but from what I know and have learned these are the right heads for the engine. I would not expect any deducts on my heads when judging time comes. March 58 car, late Jan 58 heads, but casting dates are not visible during judging as you are aware.

A two digit year, such as "57" on your heads, indicates they came from Tonawanda, never a source for small block Corvette engines. Some Tonawanda heads (notably '57, but possibly others) have end symbols which are detectably different from those on Flint heads.

                        Brad -

Those are Tonawanda heads, and the raised symbols on the end of the heads will have an as-cast surface; the end symbols on Flint heads will have a smooth machined surface.

Both Jim and John are correct. Corvette heads would have a single digit for the year. So your K1257 heads would be K127 if they were Flint Corvette heads.

OOOps... John, I checked the no. again and it is the single digit K127 not the K1257 and the end symbol's are very smooth. Correct? Thank you.

Tom... I rechecked the no. again and it is indeed a single digit K127. with very smooth end symbol's. Thank you.
