Now this is probably a dumb question, but here goes. My early 69 (Oct68) needs the rear shelf for the glass. A forum member has one with the rear mounting hinges. I have the handle and what looks like a long hinge attached to the top of the compartment. Here is the question. What size is the correct shelf. I can then decide if the one for sale will work. It seems that the 68 model year was different then 69.Thank youRoger

Re: 69 rear glass shelf
Roger,
I also have an Oct. '68 coupe and can take measurements for you. What measurements do you need? Length and width? I will get to this this afternoon and report back. I don't remember "a long hinge attached to the top of the compartment". I will verify later. Could you email me with your VIN?

Re: 69 rear glass shelf
Hi Roger,
It sounds like you may be looking at the 'flapper' doors and their mechanism which are part of the Astro Ventilation system and thinking they're a hinge. They do have a pivot which allows the doors to move but are separate from the storage shelf.

Re: 69 rear glass shelf
Hi Roger,
The 2 flapper vents were controlled by a vacuum signal from the heater/ defroster controller on the shifter console.
When the black 'wheel' that controls the temperature, H-C, is moved to the C (cold) setting the vacuum actuator (on the flapper door mechanism) opens the doors, and fresh air flows through the interior. The vacuum runs through a long length of copper tubing with a short piece of hose at each end.
This system took the place of the 'vent' windows that disappeared in 1968.
Regards,
Alan

Re: 69 rear glass shelf
Roger,
The dimensions of my shelf is:
42 1/2" wide at the front x 20 1/2" deep. This is pretty accurate but may be slightly off since it was measured installeed and it is tight back there (at least it is for us old guys). Also attached is a picture of the hinge area. Hope this helps.
