    Bracket for 1957 8,000K Tach 573E

    Hi all,

I have a '57 8K tach that I'd like to use on the steering column of my 1957 Lil Twister drag Corvette I'm restoring. I understand that someone used to sell a bracket to mount the tach to the steering column. Anyone know who this might be?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob,
I have no clue, but I made my own for my 56. It is driven by a 65 FI distributor (and I retained the tach in the dash that is driven by the generator).
I borrowed an original column mount tack bracket (both pieces) from a friend and traced out a flat pattern on paper. Then I scrolled the pattern onto a piece of sheetmetal (I used stainless, but regular sheetmetal will work fine), cut it out, drilled and shaped the holes and it fits fine.

      Tom,

That looks great! Could you supply the tracings? (Bob@callECItoday.com) I have a friend who could make me one out of aluminum, who I need to get with anyway to make me an aluminum piece so I can mount SW oil pressure and oil temp gauges in place of the speedometer in my other '57. Then I could paint it Venetian Red.

Also, there is some company name on the originals? Would you know what it is? I have pics, but only part of it shows.

      Thanks,

      Bob

Bob, there was a fellow named David Shatz (sp?) in NY state in the '92-'95 timeframe who did some and during the same period a fellow in KS, I don't recall his name now. Tom's looks pretty good.

Nice job Tom. I recall the old Sun Tachs just used a curved bracket with a large screw type "radiator" type clamp with an optional rubber sleeve. It wasn't pretty, but effective and allowed you to easily move to your next car.

            Bob,
I found the tracings and sent you an email.
