Is it the Gulf Oil Z06, 2227?

Is #2227 the one Rich Mason used to own. If so that car was owned by a local MD in old days. Dr. Donald Blatchley.
White with blue strip. Blue interior. Famous car in our area in old days. Now Grady Davis of Gulf owned more than one so I may have the wrong one.

Anybody notice this ? In the Mecum auction listing for this Z06 #0695, look at the rear bulkhead [2nd thumbnail with my crude lime green arrows]. You can clearly see the 4 vertical depressed channels in the panel that are on all C2's. (I'm guessing that it's a strength or anti-vibration measure).

Now in the AIM (at least for '65 and I'm sure that it's the same for '63), there's a note to "FILL WITH BOND" [UPC N03 sheet 3]. This would be for cosmetic reasons (ie no carpeting to hide them), but mostly to provide a perfectly flat surface that the cover can seal to. You can't drive these things around with no tank cover, or even a cover that is not completely sealed to the side rails and bulkhead, as exhaust gasses seep inside (ask me how I know ).

The first pic is from an Eric Gill article in the RESTORER, winter 1982. Probably a GM photo of a pilot Z06 tanker, which clearly shows the bond filling.

So ... is the Mecum car so early that they hadn't thought of the bond, or .... is the car being auctioned without its original rear bulkhead ?

My '63 AIM Sect. Z06 Sheet 3.00 (redrawn and revised 4-4-62, so it was currect at start of '63 produciton) has a "fill with bond" note pointing to those depressions, and the depressions are crosshatched to indicate the fill area.

            So this raises some suspicion.

Didn't Eric Gill own several of these cars??

While I have no idea what else Eric owns in the way of ZO6s, at one time he did own the body of the dark blue Grady Davis' ZO6, the body having been replaced after an accident in the interests of $$$ common sense by a body shop; this led to litigation with Leon Hurd, the initial 2nd Owner, who had chased down the car much later in life and re-acquired it (minus the original body, as it turned out); I believe the car is currently the property of the NCM. Eric was perhaps the LEADING chronicler (sp?) of the ZO6s and his imprint can be found everywhere.

Eric, at one time owned the Green Chevrolet ZO-6! It was acquired from my friend Mike Pillsbury as Mike delivered it to Eric at Cypress Gardens several years ago. I had the opportunity to inspect and photograph this original ZO-6. It was a lovely green color that I'm sure was applied by GM at St. Louis. At least it was original Lacquer!!! RIP Mike!

Jim -- right you are ! There were so many VIN #s being discussed on that Madison Avenue (Mecum) write-up that I even forgot what car it was they were going to auction.

Checked my old files and I had Z06 #895 listed as early as January 1985.

The Alan Green Z-06 was originally Ermine White. I watched Jerry Grant drive it at the Seafair Races at Kent, four months after I bought my SWC from Alan Green Chevrolet. (Don Campbell, Jerry's co-driver at Sebring in March '63, was my salesman.)

From the standing start of the big bore production race, he was the first to storm into Turn 1, flat out, where I was situated, but he was a DNF. The FI pump drive cable broke about halfway through the race!
