I'm rebuilding my 58 generator and want to replace the studs where the wires connects. The negative stud has a screw that connects to the brush. Looks like the positive is soldered but was unable to get it loose with a soldering iron. Is the wire crimped or is it soldered?

Re: How to remove wire on inside of generator positive stud
Brandon,
What wattage rating is the iron? You need a high power iron, or a large soldering gun. It takes a lot of heat to get that stud hot enough to flow solder. You could use a small fine tip torch to preheat the stud then switch to the gun for the wire connection.
I did this stud for a generator with a Weller gun....

I think these stud wires were originally arc welded as it was a quicker way to do the job, as opposed to waiting for the mass to heat with conventional soldering.

Rich, I got my wire off and got it soldered back. The higher wattage iron did the trick. Thanks for the help.- Top
