You might, also, try newspapers to dry the windows after spraying with your selected window cleaner. Old trick but there's something about the printer' ink on the newspaper that really aids in polishing up windows. And, keep the windows down in the garage...let her air out

      I'm also a Stoner's fan, use it a lot.

BUT, all these cleaners won't touch that film (IMO). What I do with glass that has real crap on it is use a clay bar with whatever spray detailer I have in the shop.

The clay bar works just as well on glass as it does on clear coat/paint. I haven't used it around rear defroster lines though.

      Then use the Stoner's.

        Bill,
The claybar wont scratch or leave a film? What brand have you used?

Nope, it takes extremely light pressure on the clay (just like on your paint). In fact, I just tried it today on the outside of the rear window on my 67 coupe, the 67's been sitting in the shop since '86 waiting on restoration (race cars got in the way). I had wiped the glass off with a damp towel when I started to do the fiberglass work. The glass felt like sand paper, a 10 second wipe with a clay bar made it smooth as silk. The detailer comes right off with regular window cleaner.

I can't say for sure that it will remove that film on your car but it does remove a lot of contaminants.

I use Maguiar's clay and spray detailer. The detailer comes with the clay bar. If you buy the kit, break off just enough clay to form a silver dollar sized piece (1/8h or so thick0. That will be enough to do your windows and you'll have enough clay and detailer left to do 2 full car bodies.

I actually bought the kit at WallyMart.

That's great info, Bill. I will give it a go later this week (and probably do the inside back glass on my 66 as well). Also thanks to all the rest who gave me their thoughts too.
