    More Cams

What is the current equivalent for the the 30-30 cam in the 65 SHP small block. Also what is the lash for the "replacement" cam.

      Re: More Cams

You have several options, ranging from an exact duplicate of the GM cam from an aftermarket source like TRW or Mellings, to using the LT-1 cam from GM, to using a more modern custom design from an outfit like Competition cams. Search the archives, as thid topic has been discussed in depth in the last year. Each approach has it's own advantages and disadvantages, so the best course is to inform youself of the tradeoffs discussed and make the choice that is best for your desured use.

        Re: More Cams

The 30-30 was discontinued in the early to mid seventies and the LT-1 cam was listed as a replacement for all 30-30 applications, which were the 64-65 SHP/FI engines and all 302 CID Z-28s. Interestingly, the Duntov cam
continued to be offered long after the 30-30 was gone.

I think this is a tacit admission that the 30-30 was a "mistake". I don't know if any of these cams are available from GMPD. You can check with a dealer
and also look at the GM Performance Parts Catalog as clones are probably
offered, but they are probably purchased from the outside. Also, Federal
Mogul and some of the aftermarket cam grinders offer clones.

I recommend the LT-1 cam for ALL mechanical lifter engine rebuilds.

          Tom:

An exact duplicate of the 30-30 is available from Fereral Mogul's Sealed Power line of engine parts. It is listed as part number CS118R in their performance parts catalog.

The 30-30 cam is also available from Crane, as "Blueprinted 3849346".
The LT1 cam is available from Crane, as "Blueprinted 3972178".

The lash for the 30-30 is specified as .030" int., .030" exh.
The lash for the LT1 is specified as .024" int., .030" exh.

joe is correct as it is also available from GM performance parts as a kit,cam and lifters, part #12364052 but your compression ratio should be 11:1 or better. i was looking for the wrong orignal part number,i got to stop trusting my memory.
