    63 cam and pistons

The engine in my 63 is a very NOM_ 65 block, 67 heads, 62 distributor. I have the engine on a stand now, and I am trying to identify the cam and pistons.

    Cam

Stamped in distributor end__ 760 CR 11 49-97
In a smaller font and very feintly stamped 183920 (last digit questionable)

On shaft on either side of distributor gear, raised_ C9 CWC on one side and D9 1539 on the other side.

On shaft at front end, 10 67

    Pistons

Stamped in top of each piston _ 040 L2166N
Pistons are still in block and I could see no other #'s. I know that the 040 signifies 40/1000 overbore.

The engine was apparently rebuilt fairly recently, as the galley plugs still have some shine on them.

Is this enough information to identify either or both?

    Re: 63 cam and pistons

Pistons are Federal Mogul Speed Pro (nee TRW) eighth-inch dome forged pieces, which are essentially OEM replacements.

The cam is likely aftermarket, but I can't identify it.

      Thanx.

I have read that pistons were one of the differences between the 300 and 340. Is this replacement for 300 or 340?

if the piston reads, L-2166NF they are forged as i can not find L-2166N listed. F/M list a cam # CS1149R which has .245 in and .265 ex lift at the lobe,184/194 dur at .050 lift, 258/268 dur at .006 lift, 104 degress lobe center

Those are the forged, domed SHP/FI pistons - correct for a '63 L-76.

              Clem

              Thanks.

I forgot to note that my engine has hydraulic lifters.

How would you characterize the F/M cam that you listed the specs for? Is it close to a replacement for the OEM 300 set up?
