    '66 power steering help

Got a strange problem that I am not sure how to remedy: Just reinstalled the system, and bled it according to the documented GM sequence.

It seems that there is air in the system even after 2 attempts. Not only that but the wheel violently jerks to the left when the engine is started, then it jerks violently back and forth until the engine is shut down.

    What is going on??!!

    Thanks in advance,
    Allen

    Allen-----

My guess: the centering adjustment on your p/s control valve is way off.

        Joe,

That is what we originally thought, but even when we adjust the screw it still does it......could it need a rebuild?

These valves can be VERY difficult to get adjusted correctly without doing it "off-car" on a test bench (which very few folks have access to). I doubt that a rebuild will solve this problem, but, I suppose, it's worth a shot.

The hoses are on wrong. They cross.

The two hoses from the valve to the cylinder cross. It is common for people to install them wrong.
