    Aaaa Haaa 2 different doors

    Gentlemen:

Referencing the AIM shows 2 vent doors with different part numbers. The 64-66 vent door (GM called it a valve) was 3797369, while the 67 was 3899218. Apparently they are different, at least with regard to the quantity of rivets required, and from the messages above may have been both used in the same model year i.e. 1967. (My 63 AIM is out in the garage, so I cannot reference that part number.)

This is a subject for article in The Corvette Restorer. I decline, as my dissertation was long ago and now I have difficulty chewing gum and walking at the same time.

        Geoffrey------

        A suggestion for you:

I have noticed when folks sell parts on eBay, they often refer to parts as "1967 Corvette parts" (even if the parts are also applicable to some, or even all, other C2 and/or C3 models). I believe the rationale is that if they advertise the parts for "1967 Corvettes", then 1967 owners, willing to pay almost any price for parts for their cars, will bid up the parts to levels that other Corvette owners would wince at. From my observation, the strategy actually WORKS most of the time! I've even seen parts STILL AVAILABLE FROM GM, but advertised on eBay as for "1967 Corvettes" sell for 2 to 3 times their current GM LIST price!

So, you should follow this lead and package/inventory parts for 1967 Corvettes under their own unique part number (with their own, unique PRICE) even if the parts are also applicable to other model year Corvettes. From what I can tell, 1967 owners seem not only willing but, even, enthusiastic about paying ridiculous prices for parts. So, why buck the trend when you can "ride the wave"?

In this particular case, the air valve door kits ARE uniquely applicable 1967 Corvettes (but, only, of course, because of the additional rivets required in the kit). No matter; that makes them not only a part for 1967 Corvettes but a part UNIQUELY APPLICABLE to 1967 Corvttes. Your pricing should reflect the exclusivity.

Now wait a minute, you guys. I know these rivets are only worth 6 cents each, tops, and I don't have deep pockets. I was just in the middle of assembling the doors when I realized that there weren't enough of these babies. The posts were getting to be interesting until now. (You would die if you knew how much I paid for this very original 67.)

No it would not surprise me. I will admit to having more in most of them than they are worth. I definately have more $$$ than brains. But they are fun to drive and I seldom have to look very far for an item that I need.
