Can anyone give me an explanation why I have a CTK stamped on front pad and a casting number which reads 3970020? Did a Corvette motor ever have this 020 stamp?

here is what i found CTK,1974 400 ci caprice, also 1978 305 used in F and X body, 3970020 1970/73 307 ci your guess is as good as mine. most 400 blocks have 3 soft plugs on the side of the block, some have only 2 plugs but have a place for the third one.- Top

3970020 is a 307 cid block. As far as I know, no Corvettes ever used this block. I don't think that GM would ever have used this block for a 350 cid configuration. To do so would have involved using a bore size that the block was never designed for. In the field, someone might attempt such an overbore, but I don't think that GM would ever have used it in PRODUCTION.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Yes, however the 307 and 305 cid engines have completely different bore and stroke configurations and utilize different blocks. The 307 cid engine of 1970-73 vintage utilized a 283 bore (3.875") and a 327 stroke (3.25") to produce a cid of 307. The much later 305 cid engines used a smaller bore of 3.74" in combination with a 350 stroke (3.48") to produce its 305 cid displacement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
