    Jeff-----

It depends what kind of a cover that it is. If it's a cotton, poly/cotten or cotton with flannel backing, they can usually be washed in a home-type clothes washer. However, it needs to be done on "extra large" load setting and with NO other items in the wash.

If you have a cover of other material (like Evolution 4 or Noah), those are not really made to be washed in a washing machine. The manufacturers NOW say that they can be so-washed (they used to say DON'T wash them in a washing machine), but it's usually way down in the "fine print" and they seem very "lukewarm" about the idea. Personally, I wouldn't attempt it. But, if one does try it, the bulky nature of these type covers will make a commercial washer an absolute necessity. I'm not even sure if one of those of the type found in most laundromats would do the job.

        Evolution 4 Washing

        Jeff,

I've washed my Evolution 4 cover at a coin operated laundramat. You should use the largest machine they have, which will cost $4 or $5 per load. Most places have 3 or 4 of the very large machines and 15 or 20 of the smaller ones that cost only $1.25 or so. Don't use the smaller machines. I recommend air drying, as I destroyed one cover the only time I tried using a machine dryer.

                Re: Washing

If it's a single layer cover either an older cotton or cotton poly or one of the newer thin single layer "weathergard" type covers it can probably be washed in a home washer. If it's a thick mulitlayer Evolution type cover (bulky) then it must go to one of those big tumble washers in a laudromat. I usually go to a laundromat and wash several covers in one load.

In any event, as stated previously, DO NOT DRY the cover in a dryer. Just put it on the freshly washed car, and let it air dry.

Also, use very little soap - about a quarter of what you would use in the specific washer for a normal load.

If you still have the data sheet for your cover, it should have washing and drying instructions.

                    Duke,

Good advice about not using the dryer. I washed my cotton flannel cover last year, and even with the dryer on low heat, I got significant shrinkage. it still fits the car and seems to be stretching a little over time, but it's not a long on the sides as it used to be, leaving some wheel and rocker panel exposed.

The washing instructions with the evolution covers I have bought said to use Fantastic as a cleaner and to use the big commercial washer and air dry.
