    alternator

On my 65 with 365hp it appears that the alternator is not correct the belts are off. When I measured from the nut on the front of the pulley to the back of the alternator where the bracket bolts up it measures 2.25 inches if it was 2.5 it would work .I do know that all the pulleys are now correct.Ther are no marking on the alternator appears to be new.Hope some one can help me.

    Thanks

    Re: alternator

Sal, My 65 350hp measures 2.5. The correct pulley is thick its 1.25 inches thick. This is for a non power steering no a.c car. There may be differences between these and my car. Mike

        Re: alternator

Thanks Mike. I have the right pully if you measured 2.5 then I have the wrong alternator that 1/4 inch would make my belts straight.
        Thanks again

Sal, did you measure the pully to see how thick it is. I'm sure someone will provide part numbers for you. I don't have my books. Most times the thinner pully is the problem. I had the same problem with my car and I had the wrong pully on my alt. Good luck

Does your '65 alt+pulley look like this ?

First of all, congrats on your choice of a '65 L76 -- best of the C2 small blocks (but then I'm prejudiced).

As Mike M. says, this pulley is just a hair under 1.25" thick measured at the outer flange edges, or 1.33" including it's inner collar, which fits flush against the fan hub. The outer diameter is 3_5/8". It's part # 3871242, used on L79 and L76 w/o C60, and on L84 fuel injected cars.

What's the part # and amps rating stamped on the top where your case bolts to the adjusting brace ?

And check out that BLACK stator, just like it's supposed to be! Not the caramel color like later 60's stators. (sorry, didn't mean to change the subject)

I don't see how the problem could be related to the alternator, assuming that no one has modified the case (which, should be readily apparent). Regardless of stamped part number, the "DN" series alternators should be dimensionally the same as far as mounting is concerned.
