Anyone recommend engine block paint

my 71 is very original and it has the original paint on the block. It has 62/K miles and runs great, so I'm not rebuilding anytime soon. I want to clean the engine real good and spray the block in the car. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best engine paint and correct color?

Any advice on a cleaning solution/method is appreciated too.

Once again PPG Omni MAE 60524. I buy it in quarts and use my spray gun or air brush to paint an engine

I've used Por 15 with good results but I've never tried it with an airbrush.

If it is "very original", how about running it through flight judging before you do anything to it?

We like to see original cars.

Agreed.

Below see a photo of the engine in my 1972 with 61,000 miles. virtually everything original (except tires, exhaust, belts and filters), just aged.
To date it has 3 Top Flights (Chapter, Regional, National) and a 5 Star Bowtie.

If your 71 is as original as you say it is, just leave it alone. I fully realize the temptation to paint the motor, but I know that in my case it's not going to happen.

Do you use a primer or do you spray the PPG onto the bare metal? Thanks.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Your motor looks good to me! I haven't cleaned mine yet and I know it will look better once I get a little grim off. Mine is a tad dirtier but like I said...I haven't cleaned it yet.

What is the best way to clean 37 years of grime, oil, grease and sludge?

Start with the least aggressive cleaner -- Joy or Dawn or other diswashing soap will work wonders. They are designed to cut grease. Try mineral spirits next, if the dish soap doesn't work. Then one of the engine cleaners in the spary can from the FLAPS. Be patient, don't rush. You want to save as much of the original finish as possible. If it takes a few weekends thats OK.
Avoid the pressure washer if you can.

I'd try Simple Green (diluted) before I'd go to mineral spirits.
Worked well for me.
