Hello, I'm trying to help a friend find out more history about his car. Also trying to determine if it's an actual Z06.
First the history. An original white / red SWC, VIN 21044. Believed to be at least a fuel injected car. When he purchased the car 20 years ago, it was light blue. As he stripped the multiple paint jobs off the car, he discovered a very cool custom 70s job (see photos). Anyone remember this paint job? The guy also thinks the Harry Mann Chevrolet (Los Angeles) license plate brackets are original to the car. It also had some Cal Poly San Louis Obispo stickers on it dated from the late 60s. It also had an old McClellan Air Force Base sticker on it. The current owner believes it was in southern California and came to the Sacramento area in the 70s. Other known colors include dark blue.
The original drive train is long gone (65 300 hp in there know). But it has the Z06 brake backing plates and two brakes lines originating from the master cylinder area (see photo). I suspect it started life as a race car.
Oldest known owner is Joseph Ambrose from McClellan AFB / Sacramento area in the early 80s. Interested in any help and comments.
Thanks, Chris
