63 Z06, Southern CA and Sacramento

Hello, I'm trying to help a friend find out more history about his car. Also trying to determine if it's an actual Z06.

First the history. An original white / red SWC, VIN 21044. Believed to be at least a fuel injected car. When he purchased the car 20 years ago, it was light blue. As he stripped the multiple paint jobs off the car, he discovered a very cool custom 70s job (see photos). Anyone remember this paint job? The guy also thinks the Harry Mann Chevrolet (Los Angeles) license plate brackets are original to the car. It also had some Cal Poly San Louis Obispo stickers on it dated from the late 60s. It also had an old McClellan Air Force Base sticker on it. The current owner believes it was in southern California and came to the Sacramento area in the 70s. Other known colors include dark blue.

The original drive train is long gone (65 300 hp in there know). But it has the Z06 brake backing plates and two brakes lines originating from the master cylinder area (see photo). I suspect it started life as a race car.

Oldest known owner is Joseph Ambrose from McClellan AFB / Sacramento area in the early 80s. Interested in any help and comments.

    Thanks, Chris

    Chris-----

You might want to contact Franz Estereicher with the info you have about the car. Franz probably has one of the best inventories of knowledge regarding 1963 Z-06 cars as anyone in the country.

The dual brake lines ("bubba'd" into a "T" off the master cylinder) do suggest Z-06. For 1963, only Z-06 had dual brake lines up to the master cylinder. It's hard to tell if these lines are original from what I can see, but it is possible that they are.

Another good source on CA cars is Jim Gessner, an infrequent poster here. He has quite a few records

agree with Bill - Zo6 registry shows the car being a small tank Z06

Gentlemen, thank you very much. Yes the trim tag has an L1 date and the Body is 10409. Can I see this Z06 Registry?

                Thanks again. Chris

                            Chris,
I have responded in your private emails and sent pictures as well. The car is in Bob Jones ZO-6 Survey, including the fuel injection serial number, so it is probably from some time ago.

At todays values, the car is definately worth restoring. Problem is the last one in similar condition cost over $125,000 to restore after buying the hard to find brake parts which were over $15,000 alone.
