    71 LT1 with M22 Transmission

I recently purchased a 71 Lt1 thats looks be optioned with an M22 trans and 4:11 gears. I have posted some of the stampings and would be curious what else to look for to verify it came with these options other than the tank sticker which I am going to drop the tank to try and locate. The engine stamp, trans stamp and rear end stamp look original and the car comes with paperwork dating back to the late 70's indicating it was an LT1. All other signs are there for an LT1. Click on the link and you will see the transmission stamped with vin#.

    Regards,

    Jerry

70 LT-1's had no return fuel line to the gas tank. You might want to look behind the speedometer, tachometer, and radio for a build sheet. I found my 68's and 70's build sheets there.

            Jerry,

I am extremely interested to hear if you locate a Corvette Order Copy sheet from the fuel tank. This would be the very first '71 LT-1 that I have ever heard of that was optioned with an M22 transmission without being ordered with option ZR-1.

Please let us know if you find the "tank sheet" and what it says!

There were 130 M22's and only 20 ZR1/ZR2's in 1971. The numbers in the two pictures look awful good. -

I agree that the numbers on the engine and transmission look very good. However, it's always been pretty much presumed that the 130 M-22's were installed with the some of the 188 LS-6 engined cars, the only engine that was "officially" available with the M-22 (other than ZR-1, of course).

Joe, I just looked past my nose a little farther than usual, and now notice that LT1 with M22 had an engine code of CGY; this car is a CGZ. But those stampings still look pretty good. Would there be much of an economic incentive to fake an M22 into an LT1?

I do not believe this is a fake. I have seen my share of stampings and these look as close to the real deal as I have seen. I will be looking for a build sheet. The car also comes with a binder full notes from previous owners as well as auto shop work indicating it was an LT1. Also there are notes from one owner who complained about the transmission whine back in the 80's.

                            Regards,

                            Jerry
