    Re: A329C

If it is not to much trouble could you post them showing all of the different parts of each. That would terrific if you could school some of us on the A329C filters

    Thanks

      Lyle,
Thanks. You confirmed what I thought. Mine seems to be a repro with the correct details.

        Re: A329C

OK, sorry, wrong terminology. It was late.

There is no embossing on this filter - just the silkscreened words. They EXACTLY match an original 212CW that I also own. If you see a currently available repro of a 329C, the silkscreened letters are FAR different than what I am showing here. I tried to find my repro to photograph and post, but I suspect I either threw it away (it's that incorrect) or have it at the barn. I was not kidding when I say that the words on the 329C repro are about half this size and totally the wrong font (in addition to many other errors).

The lines you see in the rubber are from the paper of the filter underneath. I do not see how they indicate a reproduction. They indicate that there is paper underneath...?

Note the yellow (oiled) color of the paper. I have never, ever seen a repro filter with correct oiled coloration - and I can assure you that this one isn't "massaged" to appear correct.

Again, this is what I believe to be the appearance of a mid 70s vintage AC 329C filter. I cannot find a date on the original box, which I still own. As I read the JG, it's not clear entirely what an original 70-72 vintage 329C looks like since they speak so much about the 212. An older version of the JG (2nd Ed) shows a pic of screen just like what I have posted in the picture above. If you look close, it's actually wires wound and then stamped and/or spot welded together.

        Further input always appreciated.

          Re: A329C

          Patrick,
Based on my 212 research the lines below the paper do not occur on originals. They may show up on some later AC service replacements and are also on reproductions. The yellow oiled look did occur on AC replacements and my current repro has yellowed paper as well. Yours may very well be a 70's replacement. The judging guide is not clear on this 329 subject.

            Patrick

I agree the silkscreened words are the correct size. In 73 we are looking for a square screen 329 with best way... silkscreened. I just checked both 72 manuals I have and see nothing about square screening on the outside and understand why the printed words are hard to tell what the filter should look like. The outer wire I think should be of the same type as the 212 of the same year. I sold all the square screen 212 best way filters I had for 72 LT-1's and they must have been OK for judging. Pete is the filter man so he may add something.

              Dave,

Are you sure you have a repro?

              Any pictures?

I'll try to find my crappy repro this weekend when I get to the barn, and take some pics of the filter.

I'm sure its a repro because Charlie said so. Posting photos is a winter project for me.

Do you know or remember where you got the A329C reproduction?

I think I purchased the repro from Paragon, but in speaking with them I know they do not make it.

                      Dave,

If you get a chance, please send me a picture or two of your filter.
It does not sound at all like the repro I purchased, and I suspect that Charlie and I each bought them around the same time.

FYI, I did now find application data up to 1982 on the filter box, so my 329C may be of that era.

Comparison photos to come later this week.

                        Patrick,
Will send photos when I get the car down off the lift. I think Lyle has it right. BEST WAY..... with the horizontal chicken wire and yellowed paper. I still think that the lines in the black are not indicative of an original. Some day we'll figure this out. Thanks for the help.

                          Re: A329C repro picture

Here is a pic borrowed from a restoration parts catalog.
I'll try for a better pic later.

                          Note:
                          - white paper with no oil or yellowing
                          - different metal mesh ("punched diamond holes" in metal)
                          - smaller, different shaped font

As noted previously, it's nothing but a current day 329 with a poorly executed "BEST WAY TO ..." silkscreen. I note that the price is currently $10 less than it was 4 years ago to a current $15. Still twice its real value.

                          Patrick
