I am looking to purchase a 65 327/350, 4 speed, no power steering or power brakes car. The alternator is on the right/passengers side, is this corect? I have been looking at a number of pictures and I see the alternator is mounted on left and right. Which side is cirrect for the car I am looking at?

Re: 65 350HP, alternator location, left or right??
Bill,
If your car doesn't have air conditioning, then the alternator should be mounted on the right (passenger) side. On A/C cars or big blocks, the alternator is mounted on the left (drivers) side.- Top

Thanks for the response. What if the car was a previous fuel car?- Top

Re: 65 350HP, alternator location, left or right??
Hi Bill:
As others have noted, the alternator should be on the passenger side unless the car has A/C, in which case the alternator was moved to the driver's side.
I'm curious about something that perhaps you can check for me. Does the driver's side exhaust manifold appear to have provisions for mounting an alternator? The provisions that I *think* should appear on the driver's side manifold (casting 3846563?) are a forward-facing boss with two threaded holes for bolts that run parallel to the crankshaft. I think that when they installed A/C they simply moved the alternator to this location, without changing the exhaust manifold.- Top
