bolt size C-3

Does anyone have the specification for the bolt that goes on the side of the block for the starter brace on a big block? Would like the sized used. Thanks

Kelly,

I believe the bolt is a 5/16 NC about 5/8" long. Actual length could be 3/4".
The bolt secures the starter brace and ground cable.
It is a blind hole so don't use a bolt that is too long. It will bottom out and could punch into the water jacket.

This is going on recent memory, not from documentation or a tape measure.

Have you ever heard of CRS?

The bolt should run through the chrome heat shield also right?

The car I worked on did not have the shields in place.
I am more familiar with small blocks and they have separate holes (1/4 20) for shield brackets.

I believe big block plug shields are attached by an exhaust manifold bolt near each plug.

Yes, I believe that the order of things is as you described.

The exact bolt used for the application was never available from GM in SERVICE. However, there was nothing special about it, at all. Just a standard hex head bolt.
