GM #102647 Castle nut N40

Hello,

The AIM lists part number 102647 as the castle nut that secures the pitman arm to the power steering control valve. Long island corvette calls for the same castle nut for both power steering cars and non power steering cars but the nut from them is too tall. Can someone confirm that the nut used for N40 cars is unique? I can't find the part number for non powered steering cars.

As I recall, the nut used for both power steering and non-power steering applications was the same. However, that does not mean that the nut sold by LI is the correct one for either application.

The correct nut is NOT a castle nut (aka castellated nut). No castle nuts were used on any 63-82 Corvette. The correct nuts are SLOTTED NUTS. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CASTLE NUT AND A SLOTTED NUT.

When I get home, I can provide a GM part number for a currently available slotted nut that will be virtually identical in every way to the nut originally used.

Order nut GM #9440974. It should be virtually identical to the original nut in all respects.
