"You obviously have been in the dark. Paper became available long before good restamps."

I was not suggesting paper like (repro) window stickers but real paper, much as you have suggested...there are many sources of real documentation, paper or otherwise...

Re: Just like a race horse...

Melodrama aside, I am not sure you read the entire post:

"I have no problem with a car that does not have its origianl engine...or an owner that wishes to have a "correct" (casting number and/or date) engine in thier car. I have more than one in fact...I just don't grind off numbers and restamp blocks. I can remember when the term "matching numbers" meant only one thing...an original engine."

All Corvettes are good Corvettes...I do not measure a Corvette by its NCRS awards. And I also don't condemn someone for being happy with a small block car with a transplanted big block. I just don't want to pay big block money for a small block car thats a fake...and I don't think anyone else does either...

"Greg, my new favorite term for restoration motor is now "second generation motor" LOL"

        Priceless...

Yes, I know this topic is nothing new, and I usually avoid exercises in futility, but it just bugged me that the thread was so matter of factly discussed, like "where can I get my gauge cluster restored..."

I also wanted to revisit the issue to see how many would turn out for, and against, on the issue today, since this "hobby" of ours has grown into big business for many...and NCRS awards are a large part of that business...

I just want to throw this question out to anyone who may know:

          1) Did the person who bought the last stingray know the block was restamped? and, if not,

2)Do you think they thought the engine was the original, in part at least, due to its NCRS top flight award?
