Frank and GL-----
I'll just add that the GM #14011058 never had any PRODUCTION applications, at all. They were strictly a GMPP SERVICE-only item. However, they can be used for street applications (even though they will have the familiar "for off highway use only" labels on the boxes). The main problem using these heads is that they have no heat cross-over. If using a stock, divorced type choke is important to you (as used for most 1966-74 Chevrolet applications), these heads won't do. It may be possible to drill cross-over passages; I don't know on these heads. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Hi Joe....because of your comments, I took another look at these heads. Everything you said is right. The boxes do have off road labels you mentioned. They could not be drilled tho for exhaust crossover because there is nothing to drill. This cast (#14011034 dated G015) is completely void of any material in the crossover area. Also note the rocker stud holes are tapped for screw in studs only. Now I just have to figure out what to do with these. They are NOS in the boxes. Boy you sure KNOW your parts!!!! Thx for your reply. Frank- Top

The lack of exhaust cross-over may not be a problem as big as you think. I used to think that it was absolutely necessary to have this for choke operation with divorced choke type carbs. However, I've learned some new things recently.
First of all, one probably does not even need a choke. Second, there are available electric choke conversion kits for applications originally using a divorced-style choke. I used to think that there was no way to convert a divorced choke style carburetor (e.g. all 66-72 Holley carbs used on Corvettes, Rochester Q-Jet Model 4MV, etc.). I was right about that; there IS no way to covert such carbs. However, there are available manifold mounted conversion units which effectively convert the APPLICATION to electric choke.
Except for divorced choke operation, one is a lot better off with NO heat cross-over. Of course, without the cross-over one has to be sure that no heat riser (or, a "gutted" heat riser) is used.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

If you're talking about the carb pre-heat set-up used on some cast iron manifolds used with AFB carbs in the early 60's, I think they do more harm than good. Certainly, they've destroyed a lot of carburetors. I'd plug the holes in the manifold with cup-shaped, drive plugs or drill and tap for NPT, allen head plugs. This will "inactivate" the carb pre-heat. It MIGHT be a problem if you drive the car a lot in ultra cold weather. Otherwise, I think it will be a benefit. Along with unleaded gas, your AFB might be "immortal".
You can and should still use the bakelite spacer along with the gasket and baffle. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
