    c2 clutch fork problems

i mocked up mt muncie trans and 444 bellhousing for my L72 to check that all worked smoothly before i intalled the trans. it seems to bind up. do i need to adjust the ball stud? are there different length ball studs? are all the forks the same as ? it seems the throw out bearing is not on center and the fork leans back to the rear more than it should. bill

Corvette ball studs are non adjustable. So,you have no options there. There were 2 different length ball studs----1-3/8" and 1-1/2". Yours originally used the 1-3/8" stud. However, that stud was discontinued many years ago and replaced by the 1-1/2" stud. It should work perfectly for you.

Check to be sure that you have the release bearing properly mounted on the fork. The "tangs" of the spring should be WITHIN the groove; not outside of it.

Steve's pictures above describe it perfectly.

also remember if the front bearing retainer

that the TO bearing slides on is aluminum get a steel one because the aluminum ones cause the TO bearing to stick.

I think he's in luck on this one. Only 1963 used the aluminum retainer. I don't think that an aluminum retainer was ever made that would fit 64+ Muncie transmissions.
