63-82 Steering Box Lube - is 14oz enough?

What capacity is needed for a dry box?

Doc, I just rebuilt my 72, but it was not totally dry, and there was very little left. I would think that more than 14 oz. would be needed if dry.
By the way, thanks for taking care of the delco sending unit for my gas tank that I had an issue with. Deb has taken care of me through this winter project and I have been more than pleased with the products.

My recollection is that it takes a full 14 oz tube + 2-4 ounces from another tube.

The rebuilder who taught the class at Bloomington used a heavy high heat grease. It was more like wheel bearing grease. It would be interesting to know what Bairs and other rebuilders use. I have done about 10 with the heavy grease for my cars.

There was a technical bulletin put out that described the change to grease vs heavy oil (I call it grease too). If you are very careful and do a nice job of rebuilding the unit, you can get by with the heavy oil. Terry
