1967 Door Panels and Convertible top?

The door panels on my 67 roadster are in need of some serious "help". Several tears and rips that I don't think can be repaired to original standards. My panels are pretty plain Jane. Interior is saddle with exterior Marlboro Marroon. How many options were available and who is best resource. I've read alot about Al Knoch and am leaning towards them. Also is there any way of identifing on ANY 67 what door panel actually came on the car? In other words if I put in another style that was available for 67's would it pass NCRS? We've only been involced for about 4 years so I'm learning more daily about the Corvettes. For example I just read the other day my top (which is tan) was not offered in 67. It is in pretty good condition but because of the way it fits, mainly around the windows, I'm thinking of changing it also. I have gaps of almost 1 inch by windows. If I do change same question, what was original or can I find out by any identification on car? Thanks to all for your help! This board is a life saver for THIS novice!

    Henry -

There was only one "style" of door trim panel in '67, in different interior colors as noted on the trim tag; the Al Knoch reproductions are probably the best you'll find. '67 tops were black, white, or dark teal blue, at the customer's choice. If your tank sticker is still on top of the tank, it will show the original top color - it's not noted on the trim tag.

      Henry,
There was only 1 "style" of door panel available for 67. It came in a variety of colors. Your trim tag will tell you what color the interior was from the factory. If yours is saddle then you will have 420 for vinyl or 421 for leather on the trim tag under the glove box.
Tops in 67 were Black (standard) white or dark blue. I would bet your top was black. If you have the original tank sticker, that will tell you what color top came on the car.

        John and Steve,

Thanks to both of you for the information. When we bought our car the frame and most of the area under the hood had already been restored so I'm not sure if the tank sticker is still on car. It was restored by the gentleman that owned it before the guy I bought it from. I have tried contacting him but haven't had much success. I'll probably put another post on later asking for help with information about his shop. It was Corvette Collision by DJ in Flint Michigan but is now closed. It opened in 1963 I think and just closed a short time ago. Anyway as I said I'll post something later about more details and dates. Back to the doors panels I did notice Al Knoch had a standard and deluxe set so I thought possible that both were offered from the factory. Our first Corvette was a 64 and it had carpet at the bottom of the panel but the one in our 67 is all vinyl and looks pretty plain. The number on my trim tag is 420 so it would be vinyl saddle, it also has a BA after it. Anyway Thanks again, it's reasuring to us Newbies with responses to our questions. We'll forever be indebted.

The "deluxe" door panels are probably complete with the chrome pieces (narrow racetrack and a straight piece) already installed. His standard is just a bare door panel and you need to install the chrome and probably the window wipe yourself. When complete they are the same.....

BA after 420 indicates that the interior is a base interior for a convert. No PW, Headrests, Shoulder belts, Aux hardtop, auto trans or "big" fuel tank, all of which change some of the interior trim parts.

I've recently restored a 67 coupe and I've lots of photos if you need some info along the way

          Good luck and have fun...

Did someone say '67 with a tan convertible top?

My '67 earned Top Flight with a tan top but that was several years ago. If I had a black, green or another maroon '67 convertible, it would have a tan top. It's my personal preference and to me worth any insignificant point loss. Regards, Jim Weeks - Member #2978

Holy Cow Jim! I have the other twin! Actually mine does have sidepipes and Aluminum Bolt-on wheels. Thanks for posting the picture, I'm getting ready for a paint job on mine also besides the interior work. After it's back together I will be posting a picture. Take Care and Happy "Vettin"

Thanks guys. After owning this car since 1980, I let it go last year to a member in PA. I want another '67 coupe, silver or white, small block. Not in a hurry, looking for the right one. Jim

what about the mystery screw on the top rear of the roadster door panel. I have a December panel with no hole. There was a discussion about it in the archieves and someone came to the conclusion it was added February 8 as the AIM implied . Any clarification on this mystery hole.

Re: 1967 Door Panels and Convertible top?

I have an April 67 coupe. I could not find a reference to that screw in the AIM. There is a push in clip item 23 that I don't recall having on my car. It is located in the general vicinity of the screw location (rear of panel). Possibly, someone on the line found that a screw was easier to install, readily available, and possibly the door panels didn't have a slot for the clip cut in it yet, so they elected to install a screw.
The screw may have been installed depending on panel "fit" to the door... don't know.
At any rate, I finally installed a screw after many years, because I've seen older photos of door panels (original?) with and without the screw. The judging manual states there is a screw so I installed one to keep the judges happy.....
Until you brought it up, I did not notice that the clip was added to the AIM in Feb 67...
I guess its STILL a mystery....
