    Re: New Developments

    Greg,

There should be a procedure in the service manual to check the primary and secondary ignition circuit and this can be accomplished with a volt and ohm meter. Start taking things one at a time and follow the manual to make certain components are in working order before you move to the next. The problem can be so many things and hopefully it's not serious but there is a process of elimination to be followed to get you there.

Bad lead going into distributor? Shorted condenser? The posibilities are many. John gave good advise.

          Coupla things...

          1) You will need a vaccum source with extreme accuracy, i.e., can be set to 1" increments.

          2) To do the centrifugal part in the car, if I remember right, you'll have to check it at 4000 or more engine rpm, something that always makes me nervous. I would yank the thing and take it to a pro.

                      Greg------

I think that you've got some problem going here which is not distributor-related. Installing another disributor, whether it's precisely calibrated for the engine, or not, should pretty much eliminate the possibility that your probelm is distributor related. Having an improperly calibrated distributor may be compounding and/or exacerbating the problem but I don't think that it's the root cause of it.
