    Re: 4sp shifter/cnsole clearance

Maybe the Corvette is like that Cadillac in the old Johnny Cash song.
    It's a 65-66-67-68-69-70-71-72 Corvette.

Here's a "view from the rear" of the shifter bracket on my 72.
You can see if just below the driveshaft.
The shifter itself is up and to the left of the bracket.

              Outstanding photo Patrick

You must have documented every inch of that car. Looks like you are using anti-seize to lube the shifter plates.

The front of that bracket bolts to the top of the cross member -- not like the back that comes down the back side of the cross member as you see in the photo. The front bolts are vertical, and the back bolts are, as you can see, horizontal. Because the bracket bolts to the top of the cross member one can place washers between the bracket and the cross member to raise the front while the back is a fixed height.

Check it out when you get home.

                Terry,

I think it's just dirty white lithium grease on the shifter. When I worked on it for the PO in 2000 I'm sure that's what I used.

And yes, I have a photos of almost every inch of that car. It's far easier to pull up a picture of an area of the car and post it than to drive to my parents' place (you've been there) and get another picture. I've got a few hundred pictures.

Gotta love digital cameras. There are a few more pictures I'd like to get - like a front shot of the shifter mechanism.

Do you think Roy Sinor would count the many times my car has served as an educational tool on this board as another "credit" towards it's 5th Star?

You sure had me fooled. I thought you was working on a 71 now I find out the car is in NY and you are in NC.
Are you asking all the questions for someone who is being payed to restore your car?
Are you working on the car on weekends or gathering information?

The shifter mount (2) on a stock corvette does not mount to the trans.

Here is a pic of a 73 mount.

                      Hope this helps.

                        School is still in session

That looks like the 1969 drawing EXCEPT 1969 has no view A or view B and no NOTE either.

BTW: The note, which IIRC is not in the 1970 AIM, says it all.

Terry, it was a very common practice for the drafting graphics group to cut and paste part or all of the illustration from one MY to the next. They just added to or subtracted whatever was necessary and put it on the next model years AIM format.
