I have searched the archives, studied the judging manual, ordered nuts and bolts from three suppliers, and bought nuts from a Chevy dealer trying to figure out what is correct.
The bolt I believe is closest to correct is from Paragon. It is a 1/4-20 X 9/16" blot with a capture washer that is black oxide plated. There is an additional 3/16" on the end that is a smaller diameter and non-threaded. I believe if I take my Dremmel and cut off this 3/16" and plate the end I cut off that it will be very close to original.
The nut Joe Lucia says is closest to correct is part no. 9439915. This is a black oxide plated flare nut, and this appears to be as close as you can get to original. Some people seem to believe the gold cad plated nut with attached washer from Paragon is correct.
There is a question on the plating of the bolt and nut. The judging manual says black oxide, but Joe Lucia said black phosphate in the archives.
I would appreciate any comments on my findings.
Thanks,
Allen
