Tony -- I think these are just casting mould numbers (usually upside down, near the tach drive). Just checked 5 T.I. distrib's and the nearest I have is "231" on a 1968 435hp 1110296 8_B_26. A 1970 (0_J) has "350", and a '64 (4_C)has "60" and a 1969 (9_D) has "350". Interesting to note that in the summer (?) of 1970, they started to drill the casing end of the tach drive (driven) gear thrust surface to install a plastic (nylon ?) wear button. The 0_J has this but another non-T.I. 0_B does not. Also, the 0_J has the mould # in line with the shaft (not upside-down). So if any pattern here, it's that the mould # increases with time. Another 263 ball bearing distr has # "41" but cast right-side-up.

Another way to narrow it down is if the vac advances are original, the 3-digit # may tie-in with a particular factory distrib for 1968.
