    67 Inner Fender Splash Shields

Need help in installing the splash shield staples. Anyone have any procedures to install them so they look factory correct.

    Thanks for your help,

    Don

Align your splash shield to the fender opening. Using a very small drill bit carefully drill thru the shield from under the fender using the existing holes as a template. Insert the new staples from the engine side and roll the ends like a staple using a small needle nose plier. The staples will have a raised hump on each staple "leg" when you are finished.

Don't use the stainless staples that usually come with them - they're hard to work with, and are incorrect. Make your own from 16-ga. galvanized steel wire (blister-pack item at the hardware store).

I'll vouch for the stainless steel staples being a b#$%* to work with. I installed new seals on my original shields and had a less than pleasant experience bending the staples. John, thanks for the tip regarding the 16-ga. galvanized wire.

            John,

Will use the galvanized wire type, do you know if Long Island Supply has these.

            Thanks always,

            Don

I used LIC staples. I found them a little hard to bend but got the hang of after a few. It seems to me that they are SS but are magnetic. Mike

On the last set I did I found 16 ga. galvanized wire at Walmart in the hobby section. I bent the new ones up with duckbill pliers and they worked fine and are really easy to work with. I tried first with the ones from LICS but found them too hard to work easily.
