Also has the wrong cam ("30-30") and "whizbang" Elgin double valve springs it doesn't need.

I was going by the picture. Afterwards and reading other comments, I decide to look at the auction and saw he listed it as .020.

I know he says no decking, but what did he remove the old gasket deposits and coolant deposits with? 409? Fantastic? Ivory Liquid?

Still, there is one spot of pitting on the deck, and it is too small and too clean to be that way normally, so I think the block has been decked. Any decking, even just a DA with a sanding disc to clean the crud off, would have removed those broach marks near the cylinder, so that really implies they were put back on.

I agree with Mike E that the style of II's doesn't mean much since there are some known variations. The other obvious problem is the lack of corrosion around any water passage that somebody pointed out. It's also interesting how fresh the deck surface looks, but the area on top of the block under the ends of the intake manifold doesn't share the same finish. The lines in the broach marks look too crisp to me also. I'd say it's definately seen a large sanding belt.

As far as the stamping being completed on an over the counter, I bought a '63 block several years ago that ended the build date with the single character "R". I assume it was an over the counter block assembly that could've been used for either a 340 or 360 horse car.

I'd put a picture of the pad from the original engine on my 62 fuelie on here if I knew how to do it.

Do any of you twiddie diddies care

if the damn thing even runs? Maybe the crank is .003 flat, .020 taper in the cylinders, a lobe off the cam, cracked block, etc.,etc. There's a lot of people out there that don't really give a big rat's about the PAD!

And for what it's worth, I'm no NCRS judge and no expert but those "broach" marks look more like "skid" marks! This guy looks to me like he is wanting to make a fortune off "pad huggers"!

Interesting--the motor is correct for a car in the 3500 serial number range--the FI unit is numbered c orrectly for a 62 built in the 10,500-11000 range. It's WAY too late for the block!

Pad huggers?? A bunch of NCRS guys??? NO WAY!!! After looking at a digital of the block from my 62 tonight (which Michael Hanson has gratiously agreed to post) one other thing that suggests sanding on the deck surface is the sharpness of the edges. If you compare the picture posted near the top to an original, it almost looks like the front edge would cut a finger if it was rubbed across.

My 62 FI came with the choke on the other side i.e. facing the firewall not the radiator as in these pics. Also, mine has a thing I call a "windage tray" bolted under the crankshaft inside the oil pan......Yes it clearly is missing the little numbers on the pad "outboard" of the bigger numbers showing.

                      You're right.

                      That choke can't work properly.

The diffuser cone has been rotated 180 degrees from stock. The fast idle linkage can't be installed at all.

A stock '62 choke is electrically heated. There is no vacuum running to a '62 choke housing. Without housing vacuum, hooking up a tube from that '63 - '65 choke cover to an exhaust manifold wouldn't bring enough heat into the housing to affect the coil. But that's a moot point since a stock '63 - '65 choke coil rotates the cross-shaft in the opposite direction from a stock '62 coil. The choke butterfly couldn't close anyway.

I'll keep my other comments on that engine and injection to myself for now.
