    Re: Lessee...Is This Helpful?

Bill, I would suggest that you contact Jeff Cook. His name is on the contact list at the top of this Discussion Board. I am not familiar with verse and chapter of the Florida tax code

      Re: Dues Increase

      Dick,
Thanks for the answer, but Bill would like the statue or link as he is unable to find it. My local clubs which are non profit in FL pay a flat incorporation rate and annual fee. We do not pay based on the number of members in the club, so there is still confusion.
      Thanks,
      Joel

        Re: Dues Increase

Bill, Joel, etc. He is a copy of the email explaining the $1.00 additional membership fee for Florida. It was sent by Jeff Cook, the National Financial Officer.

NCRS received a letter from the State of Florida Department of Revenue back in 1993 alerting us to changes in sales tax payments.

It seem that from July 1, 1987 to July 1, 1993 remedial legislation was passed that exempted us from this tax.

Starting on July 1, 1993, nonprofit associations with Florida members must meet requirements imposed in 1987. We had to be registered with Florida as a sales tax dealer and collect sales tax on circulation of our publications, and send the tax to the Dept of Revenue if:

        1. We sent copies of a magazine, newspaper, newsletter or other publication to our members and there was an understanding, express or implied, that a specific dollar amount of each member's dues is for the publication.

Since we list that $ 16.00 of each members dues is for The Restorer we were required to submit the sales tax at a rate of 6%.

When the application was filed the reason listed was "Portion of Member Dues for Publications".

If you have any further questions, concerning this issue feel free to contact the Florida Department of Revenue as I am sure they could answer any questions you may have.

I hope that this answers your questions

And no other state charges tax on publications?

I bet some looking finds NCRS owes tax in most states.
