    Has the harminic balancer ever been replaced? The reason I ask is early vette and chevy engines use a balancer that has the keyway and the timing groove in line. Later chevies this relationship of keyway and groove are offset. Which do you have?

    Thanks for the input. After finding out the previous owner had offset the distributor by about 180 degrees, I removed and replaced it correctly. When setting the time, however, I had forgotten to pull the vacuum line on the distributor and plug it before setting the time. The engine is now running smoothly at 6 degrees BTDC!
