You bet! "Till death do us part". A lot of folks have made that vow in other circumstances, but it didn't work out that way as things turned out. I've been true to it for almost 36 years now and (hopefully), there's no end in sight.

I used to think the slip-in, vacuum formed, floor pans were pretty neat... But, we had reports from two customers who managed to 'skew' them while driving and 'hang' the accelerator pedal on 'em creating near panic 'sudden acceleration' situations.... Now, I've reverted to driving with the dealer accessory, black, floor mats and they don't fade/discolor & work 'reasonably' well.

I had to modify my floor pan slightly to give additional clearance to the accelerator pedal. I even adjusted the pedal with the dash panel mounting bolts. Of course 1972 and up, with the smaller accelerator pedal, would diminish the problem. I can see where it could be an issue, but even the black floor mats will move around and possibly tangle with the accelerator. Awareness of the potential helps. I guess if I were doing this for a customer I might not want to take the risk, but I can live with the potential myself.

I bought a locking gas cap, too, but did so much later; probably 2 or 3 years later.

Vaguely, I recall hat I may have done it around the time of the 1973 "gas crisis". I was driving the car daily at that time and gasoline was hard enough to come by that I didn't want anyone siphoning off any of mine. My car was always garaged, so no one could ever have done it there. However, when you're driving a car daily, it presents other "opportunities" for mischief.

                    Terry-----

Some of the aftermarket floor mats have a rubber backing with little "golf spikes". These are designed to "dig into" the carpet (in a non-destructive sort of manner) like chair mats for office chairs. I think that these might work a lot better. They even have them with an 80/20 carpet facing so they look fairly "natural" when installed in the car. The strange thing is that I bought a set of these about 20-25 years ago and never installed them. In fact, I think that I bought them from Terry Michaelis when he was in the Corvette parts business. When the car is back on the road, I think the first thing I'm going to do is to install them. Why did it take me this long to install them while I suffered with those infernal "smooth bottom" mats? That's a very good question.

I thought the large opening of the gas tank presented too great a temptation while the car was parked other than in the garage at home. Like Joe, I drove the car regularly until the fuel pinch of 1973. I had no other car at the time.
It wasn't until I joined NCRS in 1979 that someone showed me how a nickle opened the locking gas cap.

The locking gas caps on my 68 and 70 very much paid for themselves one Halloween night. I could not prove it but I am sure the hoodlums I said something to about the fireworks they were using on the 4th of July and landing on wood shingles of rooftops got there revenge this Halloween night. Morning after I found thrown eggs and tomatoes on my 68 and 70. Tomatoes were smashed on the locking gas caps. I am glad these hoodlums did not know you could remove the locking gas cap with a nickle. This was in 72. Later a woman who complained about the same hoodlums making noise outside her apartment window caught them pissing in her gas tank. Parents had to pay.
