I purchased and used the clear GM mats when I purchased my 1969 new. Later, I purchased the black GM mats. The passenger side mats worked just fine. The driver side mats of BOTH styles were JUST HORRIBLE. They have no provisions for "retaining" the mat to the carpet and they slide around. Often, they "slide up" and interfere with the accelerator pedal. Sometimes, they can even cause a "stuck accelerator" syndrome (it's happened many times to me). I tried modifying the mats by t******* away material in the vicinity of the accelerator pedal. It did no good. The mat still "slides up". I have absolutely no idea why I used these things all these years. When I get the car back on the road, I won't be using them, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: dealer options 70-72
Did not have to buy them for the 68 and 70, they came with the new 68 and 70. The dealer provided them. I can tell the difference between 68's and the 70's. My 68's are more less clear than my 70's and somewhat stiffer. I would assume the stiffness is attributed to the heat in the non air-conditioned 68.- Top

Re: dealer options 70-72
Joe,
Mine slid up that way too. It is the main reason I went to the pan type, hard plastic floor liners.
I noticed that the mat slid when I was entering the car. When I put my foot or feet on the floor to brace myself and slide my butt into the seat, the floor mat moved. I suspect modifying my entry/exit style might have affected the mat moving, but the floor liners solved the issue, without my having to think before I moved.Terry- Top

I think that just normal "foot action" on the part of the driver would cause the mats to slide up, too. I can't tell you how many times I would reach down and pull the mat back only to find that it had slid back up within a relatively short period of time.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

All 1969s had the 80/20 loop. The cut pile style became available as part of the "custom interior trim" first available for the 1970 model year.
I don't think that the style of carpet would make any difference as far as the tendency of the mats to slide. The cut pile might be a little worse in this regard, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I can't speak for Terry, but I can tell you that when I originally took delivery of my 1969, the only accessory item I purchased was the mat set. In fact, I didn't do it as part of the car purchase. I just went over to the parts department and purchased the mats "over-the-counter". As I recall, I did it the same day I picked up the car (September 30, 1969).
Some dealer-available accessory items were Corvette-specific (like the floor mats and the locking gas cap). Others were more "generic" across all Chevrolet and GM car lines. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
