My 2nd Response, to Harry (for Clem)

Notice this is after my first response, which is at the bottom of the thread. This one is near the top.

Is this what you are talking about, Clem?

If some this is normal as it threads along each path. Harry's path began first, so any message on it will be higher up the screen, regardless of the time, until after a few days go by and the splitting it onto the second page, third page, etc. begins.

My 3rd Response, to Michael (for Clem)

This is the third one, and is still higher up the page than my first. This is on the path from Michael's second direct response to your original message and is the third message path.

        mike cobine -- Wednesday, 20 July 2005, at 11:01 a.m.

Notice my earliest response (1st) is at the bottom. The second is near the top. The 3rd is back near the bottom even though later than the 1st it is higher than the 1st.

It is because each response was made to someone on a different path. Only the 1st message was directly to yoru original quesiton and so it was the fourth direct response made, and placed after Ralph's, who was the third direct response made.

        Make sense?

It is like standing in lines in the bank. You may be there befoe someone else, but if you are in the worn line, they reach the window first.

                Re: web site question

I used to get an email notifying me that someone posted a response to my message on the board. But I don't seem to get those anymore. I realize that I would not get an email if someone posts a response somewhere else within the thread. But as I mentioned, I don't get emails from the system regarding direct responses to my messages. Is there some preference setting that I may have inadvertently changed? Thanks. - Kevin

Re: My 1st Response, to Clem

Do they go down to the right in a stairstep fashion, then suddenly begin a stairstep from the left again?

If you look at each leftmost post, they should be in chronological order on the way to the bottom.

Then each stairs (path) to the right and down should get older that the one one step up and one step left.

I think that it was easier to restore my first 62, even though it was pre-AIM days, than to follow this thread! Computers are wonderful things. Computers are one of the most dreadful devices ever invented. Give me a 9/16 deep socket on a long extension with a swivel any day!

Re: My 1st Response, to Clem

If this was Windows instead of HTML, we could do a screen capture, post it for him to see exactly what we see, and then have him to the same.

But if it was Windows, odds are the computer would have locked up after his fourth question where he has no answer.

For that '62, all you need are a 3/8 - 7/16, a 1/2 - 9/16, and a 5/8 - 3/4 wrenches along with a Phillips and a regular screwdriver and you can perform 90% of the work required on that car.

                        Far too complicated.

Anything after about 1988, all you need is one tool - a cell phone. Becasue you are not going to fix it on the side of the road anyway.

Then it sounds like you are seeing the same as most of us. If you want to see them in chronological order, change your Preferences to Simple List and Newest First.

The newest will always be at the top. Of course, they will make almost no sense as you will have a message about this, then a message about '62 carpeting, then one about Park City, maybe two about Joe, then another about this, and so on.

Nothing is perfect, and unfortunately, some get "lost" because they get too far down the page.

You can try setting to Thread and Newest as that keeps the thread layout with the stair steps but it puts the newest steps at the top rather than the bottom of each thread.

Remember the "How Fast Have You Gone" thread? It is way down there now and no one is adding to it.

Yes, before all the other guys

Like that line in the bank, the later you get there, the further back (down) you go.

So, if I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post a screen it doesn't mean I can't post a pic of it. Hey, there's always a way. Does your screen look like this Clem?
