C2 intake_ torque wrench access ??

    '63, 327-340, intake manifold P/N 3844461.

Because of the configuration of the manifold, I can't fit a socket and torque wrench on the 4 center bolts and one of the end bolts by the thermostat mount. How do I properly torque these bolts?

      Carburetor is not installed yet

I am reassembling the engine, and the Carburetor is still on the shelf.

Are you sure it is all four bolts? One bolts on each side uaually needs a thin wall socket. You may need to grind down an old socket to make one that will work.

I can get the socket on the bolts, but I can't get the rachet or torque wrench on the socket; the angle is wrong. Also, the oil fill tube prevents getting on one of the end bolts also.

I use a universal joint, or a universal joint socket. While your torque value will change slightly, I've never found a better way.

Use a crows foot, and take off a half a foot lb.

I just use a box-end wrench, pull manually with the same effort it takes to move one of the other bolts that's already torqued with the torque wrench.

A crow foot is an open end "socket" with a square drive to attach to conventional socket drives. It got the name from its shape. The are available as open end, "tubing wrench" (five sides open on the sixth) and I think box end.

There's also a tool called a "wobbly extension" that allows a socket some freedom of drive angle if you don't have a straight shot to the bolt head, so they are great for those tough to reach bolts.

John's method also works just fine.
