tachometer/mechanical to electric

Is anyone aware of anything on the market that is a change over from a mechanical to an electric tachometer for a 1960? If so, is one brand better than another? and do you have any numbers on the part? We have to change distributors and we're thinking about going to an electric set up.

It depends what you're after in the "final product". If you're after a tachometer that will fit cleanly in the 1960 dash opening and look just like the original tachometer but operate electronically, then I don't know of any such "animal". Certainly, there is nothing available from GM now (or, as far as I know, EVER) to accomplish this. Whether there is an aftermarket unit like this, I don't know.

If you just want to install an electronic tachometer and are not concerned about the above-referenced issues, then it's easy. An electronic tach can be retrofitted to the car very easily. It's an easy 2 wire hook-up and you're ready to go.

If you have an original 60 the tach should be off the generator not the distributor, unless it's a high horse FI.

Corvette clocks by roger will sell you a factory looking tach with elec internals. I have used several without any problems.
