66 Clock Repair - Where does one go?

I come to the experts again, and thanks to all who helped me with my Teak Wheel questions.

My 66 org clock does not work, not sure if I'm going the quartz or re-build or replace NOS "Borg" mechanical unit. I have found two places on the net, Corvette Clocks by Roger or Clock Works. Can anyone recommend either of these businesses or someone even in Canada. I live right on the Canada/USA border, so either country works. I just want the clock fixed properly and for the best price!! Thank-you>>>

I have used Roger on numerous occassions (clocks and instruments) with very good results.

          Keith,

I would NOT recommend Roger. I had my 65 clock done by him (with quartz conversion) several years ago and I was pleased with the workmanship; however, the clock began to intemittently stop a couple of years ago and now is generally no longer functioning. At Carlisle this past summer I spoke with Roger to see if I could simply get a new quartz movement ( from what I understand, they're not that hard to install). He said no, that they didn't sell the movements. Then I suggested sending him the clock to simply have the movement replaced and asked how much that would cost, since the only price quoted in Roger's brochure was for conversion AND restoration (ie: face cleaning, re-painting of needles, cleaning of case and bezel and re-painting the black on the bezel). He said that the 'full' service was all that they offer; basically, 'take it or leave it'. I think I'll 'leave it' and go elsewhere. Brian at Corvette Specialities of Maryland has always struck me as being reasonable to deal with, and I believe they do clocks as well as instrument clusters, etc.

          My experience and my opinion....

            Keith;

After speaking to Roger a couple times at Carlisle, I found him to be generally unhelpful and brusque. Not a very good face to put on whilst trying to drum up business. I never have, nor would I ever use him. He is a rare example of unhelpful Corvette people.
I recommend Corvette Instrument Service. Great work, and great attitude. He will work with you and answer any and all questions.

Very bad experience with Roger. I won't ever use him again. Corvette Specialties of Maryland is my new primary vendor for clocks, wipers, etc. Excellent work and nice folks.

Grant buying the movement is available and doing it yourself is available from a few sources. The Last Detail sells them for about $60 with instructions.

When I went to fix the clock in my 61 that was not working I noticed a Clocks by Roger sticker on it. It had been done by him 2 years earlier. I have used Jerry at Clockworks many times and found him to be outstanding. I had one problem w/ my Camaro clock and he corrected it w/ no questions asked.

The non-functional mechanical clock I pulled out of my '67 had a "Clocks by Roger" sticker on the back; I sent it to Brian at CSoM (plus my cluster), and both are now works of art. Nice folks, great work

I might be wrong... but I believe D&M Restorations (See Driveline) does the work for Corvette Specialties of Maryland. Might save a few bucks by asking/avoiding the middle man.

Keith - There are two Rogers out there, don't get them confused. There is "Clocks by Roger" and the Roger of "Corvette Instrument Service". I had Corvette Instrument Service restore all mt gages about 11 years ago. My original '67 clock only needed cleaning, lubrication and a minor adjustment. It still runs great when the battery is connected.
I'd use Roger of "Corvette Instrument Service" any time.

                          Roger Scott's Corvette Instrument Service

Kent, I agree. Roger Scott's Corvette Instrument Service in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida does top quality work and is easy to deal with. He also does instrument cluster restorations for South Florida Corvette shops as well as individuals. He usually has a space at the Orlando meet in January. Jim Weeks - Member #2978

                              Keith,
The quartz conversion is really quite easy to do yourself and you might enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishing the job yourself. As some of the other members have said the quartz conversion unit is available from several sources with easy to follow instructions. If you would like to have someone in Canada perform the conversion or repair the original movement there is a Corvette shop in Montreal that can do this. The shop is Corvette Plus and the owners name is Paul Versailles. He speaks perfect English and even gave the Montreal Chapter a great tech session on quartz conversion.
