    Dunno...

Is the lower valance bolted?...i.e. was it on the body at body drop? If bolted, do you suppose the cut-out and the indentation provide clearance on one side only as a assembly aid with the bumper braces installed?

BTW, Mike Hanson's red specimen looks like a hand cut to me. Appears to have a little "wander" in the straight line typical of human imperfection...perhaps it's an "optical delusion" (Yogiese) from the photo.

No. It is a part of the body and bonded on. Is already installed at body drop.

          Chuck, Mike Hanson's photos are

ones of my car. No, to the best of my knowledge no on has modified the cutout. I agree that it looks like the cut wanders some, which is the reason I original thought it wasn't a GM process.

              Re: That's Gary Beaupre's picture

I just posted it for him. It took about two solid days but I finally learned how to post pictures. The 14 year old kid next door could probably figure it out in about 15 minutes, makes me feel stupid.

I'm learning as we go on this cut out thing. I have no info on it and know nothing about it. I don't remember ever having seen one on any of the 66-67 cars that I've had but maybe I just missed it.

It is on the drivers side too.......just not the notch. The depression part is there on both sides.....Craig

Also - the 67's seem more uniform, mine is like John Hinkleys picture, the 66 pictures here seem like a cruder deal, maybe it was cut in during 66 and molded in during 67......Craig

--------Im not disagreeing with any of these posts but I think the term "molded in notch" is probably incorrect. If you see an NOS lower valence at a swapmeet or wherever there is no notch cut in it. Even on 67s which appear to be done better I dont believe the notch came in the panel from MFG. Maybe the notch-cutting guy got better by the time 67 rolled around (LOL), or maybe he had a template by that time?. I always look for this notch as one way to tell me about accident history, although a savvy Vette restorer could duplicate the notch pretty easily. It was an assembly line operation done for some purpose. My personal thought is that it had something to do with the body drop, but I have no proof whatsoever to back this hunch up!.........Bill S

                              Craig -

I don't remember the specific plan number, but I pay $24.00 every six months; gives me storage for up to 2500 images, unlimited daily access bandwidth (including for eBay auction photos), and direct linking from any outside site. Professional operation, lots of built-in utility features (resizing, etc.), site always pops right up.

They have a "free" hosting service too, but it no longer allows direct linking from outside sites and has tight limits on number of images and daily access bandwidth (just like the other few remaining "free" hosting sites).
