High performance engines make a lot of heat. The pressurized system raises the boiling point of coolant to about 240 degrees, so 210 is well within the limits of the system. An engine sitting in traffic will inherently run hotter because it is not drafting cool air at 75mph.

        Mike,

Are we talking high performance or base engine 8.5:1 270 horses? I know very little about LT-1 specs. I never saw a base run over 190 degree. My car stayed cool in traffic in Tuscon, AZ in August. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

For some reason I thought we were talking about a 11:1 big block. Lots of classic Corvette owners think they have hot engines, but in reality have temperature gauges that read 20 - 40 degrees hotter than actual. Newer temperature sending units are not calibrated for the old gauges.

The best way to check is to install a lab grade thermometer near the sending unit and compare actual temp to temp reading on the gauge. You can then make corrections by splicing resistors into the sending unit wire. I'm writing an article on this procedure - let me know if you'd like a draft version.

                Hi Mike,

I would absolutely welcome a draft of that procedure. Now that I've been tipped off to how innaccurate my gague can be, I need to get an infrared thermal probe and see how hot it really is!

                Thank you, Mike.

I would love a draft version. I've got the 390 hp bb 1966.

                    Thanks,
                    Steve

Of course I should give an e-mail: spettit@sonoma-county.org.

                        Thanks
