62 Rear Emblem Back Plate Paint Tips

The rear emblem back plate on my 62 has an incorrect silver metal finish. I would appreciate any tips on how to paint (what paint) the back plate to look like the original black. I am planning on putting on a coat of primer followed Satin Black Rust-oleum #7777.

Also, should some sort of a sealer be used between the back plate and the rear emblem? If so, what material is recommended.

Plate should be steel, not aluminum. You probably have a 58-61 backing plate which was aluminum. There is a gasket that fits between the emblem and the body (most suppliers sell that)--the backing plate butts up against the emblem with no gasket/sealer, etc., because the gasket between the emblem and the body keeps the moisture out.

My '62 backing plate is aluminum painted black & is original.
