vin tag resto

How would you strip the vin tag,from its paint. Some how this is one of the most important pieces of my car, and before I go doing some thing foolish I'd thought i ask, it has some small surface rust. jc

Have you considered just leaving it alone? Where did the paint come from? Tom #24014

I assumed they were painted black? They are natural raw metal? jc

I took another look at mine and checked the 68-69 JM. Through the glass it does have a painted appearance but I looked at mine really hard and it's like the JM says (page 6) "black stamped metal". If that's the paint you mentioned then I think I would either leave it alone or possibly use a nylon long-bristle brush to reach some of the surface rust ONLY. Hope this helps. Tom #24014

If it is off the car, what are you going to do to get the correct rosette rivets to reattach it?

What is that comment about, I must have missed something about this. E-mail me JACK. Is it some thing about the "removal" of the tag? that bothers a Purist?I'm lost to this term, (rookie restorer of vettes.)and would like more info. jc
