Re: Vinyl or Leather for 1967 Seat Covers?

Do whatever works best for you!
Many members of the NCRS forget that although we have had 39000 members join over the years, only 15000 still belong! While it is true that we want to RESTORE Corvettes, we also need to watch the "war zone" attitude that makes us look like JERKS! I would like to apologize to you for the insensitive comments of some of my fellow members. It is my opinion that not every Corvette will be restored to NCRS top flight standards, but all Corvettes can still be appreciated for what they are. Besides, the owner of an "incorrect" car today MAY want to get a "correct" car later if encouraged and not harassed.

    Again, please accept my apologies.

Why do you think having an NOM precludes you from judging?

        Mark,
I think the only inappropiate suggestion was to change the trim tag. Be it for NCRS judging or not. The car would be a false representation of what it should be. Personal upgrading of vinyl to leather if not "hidden by a repop trim tag" is just personalizing one car.

            Patrick,
They look very nice. Did you put the seat back edge trim back on?

              Mike,
Do you mean being judged? If a car is NOM then I was under the impression that it's basically game over according to NCRS standards. But my ignorance may be showing....

                  Mark,
No apologies are necessary. While there are a number of aspects of my 1967 that are not strictly "correct" it is a stock, well-maintained and clean example of that year. Here is the engine, an L79 clone that I assembled with the help of EBay, Paragon, and Dr. Rebuild. That is a genuine 3890490 intake (wrong date), the air cleaner is repro, the temp gauge wiring is on the wrong side, the paint on the valve covers is wrong, the Holley IS correct, fan belts are wrong and I did not install the waterpump bypass hose. And there is more. But I enjoy the car very much and it is babied. I enjoy this hobby very much and would hope that there is some tolerance for this kind of car within the NCRS.

Re: NCRS means restoring, not modifying

No, it just means you lose the points associated with a portion of the stamp pad numbers.

Let's say your car is 1967 serial number 12345. It's not, but let's say it is. You find a 1967 block of correct casting and date. It is stamped for a 1967 327/300, was built at the right time, but happens to belong to serial number 11234. You would get credit for the block casting, the block date, the assembly date and the assembly code. You would LOSE the points associated with the serial number. Per the judging sheets for my 72, that would be 25 points. Heck you'd lose that if your clock doesn't work, and you can gain it back by driving from your house to the meet.

So then, why can't you have your car judged at an NCRS meet? Per my recollection, only a bogus VIN tag (and maybe now a bogus trim tag) can cause the judges to recommend you withdraw your car from judging.

                        Your engine looks great!
I personally have four big block cars including L88, L89, and a 390 HP convert with A.C. but my favorite one to drive is my 532 cu in 4 speed '69. Sure it's not NCRS correct but it sure is a lot of fun and that's what counts (but the exterior looks stock).
Hope you keep enjoying and driving your vette - I bet you're smiling the whole time too!

                          Mark,
I have owned Corvettes for almost 20 years. And here in Canada they go away into heated, commercial storage from November to April. So basically I do not see them for five months each winter. The Wife cannot put up with me as the long Easter weekend in April approaches: irritability, impatience, can't sleep, etc. And the Carly Simon song on the home stereo: Anticipation (remember the Heinz ketchup commercial?). Then its a $10.00 taxi ride down to the storage garage. And me coming home with Irene Cara's "What a Feeling!" on the stereo at 8/10 volume. I am getting too old for that excitement but April's coming again....

                            Paul -

Looks terrific!! Not an issue of "tolerance" - just a matter of individual priorities; after all, it's all about the cars and the people that bring us together. Some guys are focused on originality for judging, many others are not: I wish mine looked that good

                              John,
Those comments coming from a person with such high stature in the Corvette community are very much appreciated! Your article on 327/300 intakes was a classic. I took off a 3872783 to put on that ...490. It is sitting in the basement.
