Re: 1970 LS-5 air cleaner
Thanks Jim and Rick I was under the impression that early LS-5 cars hade the open element and that later cars hade the duel type? It seems that most LS-5 cars that i have seen are pretty early production cars were as most 350-300 cars were late in the year run?? Any body have more info on this and the air cleaner subject. Re: 1970 LS-5 air cleaner
All 70 air cleaners were open type. Good friend of mine had a late 70 with an auto and air and came with the open type. My 71 LS5 is mid year and has the dual snorkle. 71 air cleaner sticker is made for the snorkle lid. the open type type has to breath better any way- Top

Re: 1970 LS-5 air cleaner
I have to research this for my car (base 70) recently with some NCRS friends help. In base engine the open type was install in cars before around #12000. Understand that LS5 had a similar pattern. A mix could be possible at middle/end of production. JG speaks about this issue too. All best from Argentina Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC- Top

Re: 1970 LS-5 air cleaner
Hi Roberto! i agree with you on the air cleaner. I am in the process of purchasing this car and i have the word of the orig owner that this is the air cleaner[open type] that the car came with! Now let me throw another spoke in the wheel-----Did an early 70 LS-5 come with chrome valve covers??Thanks everyone from THAD- Top

Re: 1970 LS-5 air cleaner
Same sources show that LS5 have chrome covers (flash chrome type, cheap). I have some LS5 original car photos with big open type 'cake'in the middle, and chrome valve covers with Tonowanda decal in front RH. Team leaders, Jack H, Joe or others could give you a more definitive answer, but I'm rather sure this was the early 70 configuration. Saludos Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC- Top
